Country Park Impression was written in October 2006, when I was a Form 3 studentin Wah Yan, for a school assignment to be done after the first semester school picnicthat year. The school picnic was held at Hok Tau, beneath the famous Pak Sin Ranges,near the town of Fanling in Hong Kong. The teachers have specifically assigned aproject for the Form 3 boys, with the requirement that we express our feelingstowards the trip using any medium we see fit. I chose to complete the assignment bycomposing this piece. This piece. without counting the extremely crude and random first version of my firstsymphony. is the first full musical piece that I have written. The piece aims to expressthe beauty of the countryside through the melody and chords on the piano. The choiceof instrument, as well as the style of the piece, is related to my enthusiasm in themusic of Yanni, a contemporary composer-pianist.
