Published by Paraclete Press. PL.9427. This poignant work, from the Orthodox liturgy for Lent, depicts the Mother of our Lord, at the foot of the cross. The composer uses long seamless phrases at a slow tempo to capture Mary's anguish. Lvov writes for basso profondo throughout the work, often doubling the bass line down the octave.
