Virga is precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates before it reaches the ground. It can produce rather dramatic and beautiful scenes, especially during a sunset. Helen Grime's Virga was ommissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra in partnership with UBS, as part of the UBS Soundscapes. Pioneers series. First performed by the London Symphony Orchestra in July 2007 at Barbican Hall, London, conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier. Parts are available on hire from the publisher.
