This masterful setting of God’s Grandeur by Kenneth Leighton composed quite early in his career has characteristic mid-century muscularity. One can discern the influences of Hindemith and Dallapiccola at moments, though the Leighton sustains his diatonic grounding. There are frequent seconds and fourths in the harmonies and sly programmatic details, like the sliding setting of the word ‘oozing’.
