Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Kimberly Davenport and Michael Davenport. Classical. Piano score and part. Alea Publishing #ALEA1064. Published by Alea Publishing (A7.ALEA1064).

The 'cello sonata Op.109 is one of the later works of Gabriel Faure (1845-1924), displaying his compositional style at its most advanced. While the piece as a whole is idiomatic to the 'cello, the second movement, a beautiful Andante is quite effective in this transcription for bass clarinet and piano. The movement would make a lovely addition to a recital program, perhaps as an encore. An extended-range instrument is required to maintain the range of the original work, but a few phrases could easily be adjusted to allow the piece to be played on an instrument to low E-flat. The original key has been maintained, placing the bass clarinetist in the comfortable key of a minor.
