I'm playing this on the piano and I'm using Bm on "I didn't stand in your" and then E7 on "way" then E.
Then again as given, then in the chorus I'm playing D "You..." A "left me" then Dbm/E "just when I needed you" A "most". I think it adds to the melancholy and - at least on piano - is nearer to the original.
And then I'm leading over to the chorus repeat after the A ("most") with Bm then Dbm... then on with D "You..." A "left me" then Dbm/E "just when I needed you" A "most".
I'm not a guitar player though and don't mean any offence. It's just how I like to play it on piano.
